A Moment of Reflection聽

As we wind down the school year, we encourage reflection around your experiences with free speech, ideological diversity, and the core values of higher education. In our own reflection, we are guided by the strength of聽our Principles of Community and Principles of Diversity, which underscore the urgency of our mission and commitment to fostering a sense of belonging and equity for all members of our campus community. We invite you to join the EJ Team in embracing these challenges as opportunities to create meaningful change in shaping an environment that reflects our ideals and welcomes all voices.

Committee on Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity (CIDE)

As the academic year comes to a close, the 2023-2024 Committee on Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity is finalizing the outcomes for this year’s聽two main projects: reviewing聽the 61传媒Land Acknowledgement and part two of the Student Belonging survey.

The 2024 Student Belonging Survey聽launched in February 2024, and聽was administered until March 8th. Over 150 students across all four grade levels provided perspective on their experience at Scripps.

The survey was initially聽developed and administered by the Equity and Justice Team in the spring of 2023 in response to the results the Fall 2021 National Assessment of Collegiate Campus Climates (NACCC) student survey.聽Please be on the look out for an invitation for our聽May Community Gathering, where we will be sharing the survey result with the wider 61传媒community in an聽effort to collaborate with campus partners to address student belonging聽on campus.

The ongoing聽review to the 61传媒Land Acknowledgement is in partnership with Dr. Hao Huang, the NA/IS聽faculty, local indigenous leader Javier聽Ram铆rez, and additional indigenous community members. This year, the NA/IS faculty provided CIDE with a variety of recommendations for changes to the land acknowledgement.聽The committee聽will share updates with the community at a later date.

Final Thoughts

As we wind down the school year, we invite you to reflect on how you have collaborated and connected with others to make a difference here at Scripps.

Life is not what you alone make it. Life is the input of everyone who touched your life and every experience that entered it. We are all part of one another.
