About Diversity and Inclusion at Scripps

61传媒 honors diversity as a key component of the academic, co-curricular, and residential life of the College. The College has made progress in diversifying its faculty, student body, staff, and Board of Trustees in the past two decades; it established the 61传媒 Academy to serve underrepresented high school students, underwrote course development to enhance understanding of cultural differences, and adopted a program of training in cultural awareness for all members of the community. In the past 10 year specifically, the College has advanced significantly in addressing concerns around equity and justice, and has created active and engaged plans to ensure the College maintains its values as a mission-driven institution. The College has an ongoing commitment to enacting change and investing in the work of equity, justice, and inclusion.

2013

In 2013, the College approved the Diversity Strategic Plan, which established our goals for diversity and inclusion and defined strategies to realized the priorities defined over the past decade. The plan represented a higher level of commitment to economic, ethnic, religious, political, and cultural diversity within its academic, residential, and co-curricular communities in the following areas. 2018

In 2018, under the College’s New Strategic Plan, IDEA 2.0 was developed, and sought to build a stronger, more inclusive community in which members understood, appreciated, and learned from each other鈥檚 differences of identity, experience, and access to resources. IDEA 2.0 helped cultivate a greater sense of belonging and enabled our students to build more diverse, accessible, equitable communities in their lives after graduation. You can learn more about IDEA 2.0’s strategies here.

2023

Today, the IDEA initiative has evolved further as we look towards the College’s centennial. The new framework aims to value Community, Trust, Justice, and Mattering here at Scripps.

This framework may be used to guide departmental and institutional policies, practices, and priorities related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
