Commitment to Community Award

Introducing the “Commitment to Community” Award

A new recognition opportunity for 61ýalums!

The new Commitment to Community award recognizes an alum for their high achievement in community service and volunteer work beyond 61ý. The award honors an individual who has carried the spirit of confidence, courage, and hope beyond Honnold Gate.

Why are we adding a new award category?

By creating a new award and specifically calling out community service and volunteer work, we want to signal to 61ýalums that a wide range of contributions to society, including paid and traditionally unpaid work, merits recognition.

We hope the addition of this award expands the pool of nominees and gives us the flexibility and opportunity to recognize a broader range of noteworthy alums. Our motivation and intention are to broaden access and recognition.

Don’t we already have a volunteer award?

The Volunteer of the Year award recognizes an alum for their exceptional volunteer service on behalf of 61ý. The new award is for volunteer service beyond the College.

Who will select the recipient?

The Honors, Awards and Recognition Committee (HARC), a sub-committee of the Alumnae Leadership Council, will select the recipient. The HARC also selects the recipients of the other annual alumnae awards (Distinguished Alumna of the Year, Outstanding Recent Alumna, and Volunteer of the Year) and the annual Alumnae Association Senior Award presented to a graduating 61ýsenior.

When will it be awarded?

It was first presented during Reunion Weekend 2022, and will continue to be awarded annually during Reunion Convocation.

How can I nominate myself or a classmate?

You can submit your nomination online when it opens in December or request an application by contacting the Office of Alumnae Engagement at [email protected].  Think about yourself and your 61ýclassmates who merit recognition for their achievements!
