61´«Ã½ Faculty Member Selected as a National Endowment for the Humanities Scholar

61´«Ã½ Professor of Music Hao Huang was one of 16 educators selected nationally by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Summer Scholar program to participate in the seminar “Arts, Architecture, and Devotional Interaction.” During the four-week summer program, Huang will be at the University of York in York, England to conduct research.

City of Claremont Honors 61´«Ã½ with “Excellence in Design Award”

City officials will present 61´«Ã½with a 2013 Excellence in Design Award for distinguished work on the College’s iconic Margaret Fowler Garden. A public award presentation takes place May 14. A reception will begin at 6:15 p.m. in the lobby of the Claremont City Hall, 207 N. Harvard Ave. The award ceremony will follow at 7 p.m. The event is open to the public.

“Misc.,” the annual senior art show highlighting the final thesis projects of graduating studio art majors, will be on display from May 2 to May 17 at the 61´«Ã½ Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery. An opening reception is scheduled May 2 from 7 to 9 p.m. in Bixby Courtyard. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.

Award-winning author Helena María Viramontes, acclaimed Broadway and screen actress Alma Martínez; Grammy award-winning musician Martha González; and 61´«Ã½ Associate Professor of Music Cándida F. Jáquez, who is also director of the 61´«Ã½ Humanities Institute, will host the peña “Entre Mujeres (Between Women): Embodied Knowledges” on April 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Garrison Theater of the 61´«Ã½ Performing Arts Center.
