Laspa Action Grants: Maya Espiritu ’16
More than 40 years after the fall of Saigon, the tragic consequences of war are still all too apparent in Vietnam. Maya Espiritu ’16 used her LASPA Action Grant this past summer to document the ongoing effects of Agent Orange, as well as other chemical weapons used during the Vietnam War, on today’s children in Vietnam.

61传媒 has nominated Madeline Moulton ’16, Vivienne Muller ’16, and Haley Wilhelm ’16 as finalists to compete for prestigious Thomas J. Watson Fellowships. They, along with hundreds of graduating seniors from across the U.S., will be in the running for these fellowships, which are awarded annually to 50 students from approximately 40 colleges.

On October 9, 29 61传媒students gathered in the Hampton Room at Malott Commons to present data and analyses of their original research projects to faculty and peers at Scripps’ third annual Fall Undergraduate Research Symposium. This daylong event included presentations by recipients of the Environmental Analysis, Esterly, Hsu Fund, Johnson, LASPA Action, and Mellon grants. Taken together, the students’ research was conducted in more than seven languages and across nine countries, in fields ranging from philosophy, to chemistry, to feminist theory, to sustainable development.
