PLEN

61传媒 is a member of the Public Leadership Education Network (PLEN). Students benefit from real world experience, lifelong connections, and professional development as well as reduced registration fees on all PLEN Seminars.

PLEN’s mission is to empower, educate, and engage women and marginalized gender groups in public policy to promote diverse, inclusive leadership in policy making. enhance class work and curriculum by giving students valuable access to women leaders in Washington, D.C. from the legislative, executive, and judicial branches, agencies, nonprofit organizations, and the private sector.

The Laspa Center sponsors select students to participate in one or more of the seminars listed below. Laspa sponsorship includes registration, lodging, and some additional funding for airfare and meals.

Our membership with PLEN allows any 61传媒student to participate in PLEN seminars at significantly discounted rates, even without Laspa Center sponsorship. View each seminar’s “Member Rates” on the PLEN website. Students should be careful to identify their affiliation with 61传媒when registering and are asked to notify the Laspa Center that they have registered.

Health Policy (October 14-18, 2024)

October 14-18, 2024

At the Health Policy seminar, college students from across the U.S. considering a career in health policy will learn how to make an impact聽in the legislative and political processes, explore聽hot-button issues聽on Capitol Hill, and expand their聽professional networks in Washington, DC and beyond.

Laspa Center sponsorship includes full coverage of seminar registration fees and lodging in Washington D.C., plus additional support for airfare, meals, and ground transportation.

Eligibility

All currently enrolled students who will have completed at least one full semester and are in good academic standing at the time of the trek are eligible. This conference will require personal accountability and responsibility.

Application Requirements

The application includes a series of short-answer questions and a current resume.

Supplemental Materials

Participants may be asked to share their experiences with the community and will be asked to submit:

  • A post-program survey
  • One-page trek summary with photo
  • One blog submission

  • Applications open September 17, 2024.
  • Applications are due September 22 at 11:59p.m.聽 (Each applicant will receive an email confirmation upon submission.)
  • All applicants will be notified of the status of their application by September 25, 2024
Global Policy (March 17-21, 2025)

March 17-21, 2025

At the five-day Global Policy seminar in Washington, DC, participants will learn how to聽launch their international policy career. They will participate in policy discussions, connect with changemakers who are shaping policy in DC and around the world, and learn valuable professional development skills. .

Eligibility

Currently enrolled juniors and seniors with a demonstrated interest in global policy and who are in good academic standing at the time of the trek are eligible.

This conference will require a high degree of independence and personal accountability. While there is some time built into the schedule to explore the city, expect a busy daily schedule with as many as three location changes, multiple panels of industry experts, and/or trips through airport-level security at federal buildings.

Supplemental Materials

Sponsorship recipients should be willing to share their experiences with the community and will be asked to submit:

  • A reflection on how this project impacted your leadership development, which is for the Laspa Center only and will not be shared externally (academic tone: minimum 1000 words)
  • A shorter narrative description of your experiences, which may be shared in whole or part on the College website and/or social media (conversational tone: minimum 750 words)
  • At least two images that capture the essence of your experience
  • A short video (3 minutes) about the experience
  • Willingness to share your experience with the community
