This spring, Scripps鈥 Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) Initiative is partnering with the College鈥檚 signature event series, 61传媒Presents, to bring public programming to campus that focuses on issues of inequality. 鈥61传媒Presents and the IDEA Initiative are aligned in the desire to amplify awareness of the iniquitous nature of our world,鈥 says Denise Nelson Nash 鈥76, who chairs the IDEA Initiative.

Mary Routt Chair of Writing R.O. Kwon: Making Space for Women Writers of Color in the Literary World

When bestselling author R.O. Kwon came to 61传媒as the 2020 Mary Routt Chair of Writing, she knew she wanted to bring other women artists to campus, especially women writers of color. The need for more inclusive literary representation is a value that鈥檚 reflected in her upcoming 61传媒Presents conversations, as well as in her course syllabus on what she calls 鈥渆ye-opening writing,鈥 which features work by Shirin Neshat, Frida Kahlo, Susan Sontag, and Maggie Nelson.
