YouYoung Kang, 61传媒 associate professor of music, will speak on “The WPA Federal Music Project and Its Enduring Legacies,” presented by the Malott Commons Tuesday Noon Academy, on March 1. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Professor Kang teaches music theory and seminars on topics such as “Music and the Performance of Identity” and East Asian music. Her research in music theory focuses on counterpoint, seventeenth-century compositional practice, and the analysis of early music. Professor Kang’s authorship of the Korean American section of the “United States of America,” New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians manifests her additional interest in the traditional music of Korea and in musical practices in the Korean American communities.
The Tuesday Noon Academy is a weekly, one-hour series of lectures held in the Hampton Room of the Malott Commons. The doors will open at 11:45 a.m. Bring your own lunch or purchase lunch at the Malott Commons Dining Hall. Dessert and coffee are provided.
