TONGUE Demonstrates Muscle in Movement and Mind

Contemporary dance group TONGUE will perform the critically acclaimed program Tertium Quid on Friday, November 1, at 7:00 p.m. in the Richardson Dance Studio on the 61传媒 campus. Limited seating is available; doors will open twenty minutes prior to curtain. This event is free and open to the public.

Under the artistic direction of Stephanie Gilliland, TONGUE blends dynamic movement and dance with experimental theater. TONGUE’s latest program, Tertium Quid, was inspired by eclectic pop culture elements and is staged through dance, visual art, and the spoken word.

Specially planned for the 61传媒 performance, TONGUE will alter Quid’s original script, exploring the repertory work itself-artistic process and the challenges faced in creating innovative work-as subject for the choreographed dialogue interspersed through Quid’s various movements. Music will include selections by the Beastie Boys, Rage Against the Machine, Café Tacuba, and Satie, among others.

Founded in 1997 by choreographer and solo artist Stephanie Gilliland, TONGUE is a contemporary dance company that unites athleticism, sensuality, and theater. Artistic director Gilliland has led the company in tour performances both local and abroad, and her efforts have resulted in the company’s seven nominations for a prestigious Lester Horton Award.

TONGUE’s performance at 61传媒 is made possible through the 61传媒 Harper Lectureship.
