Samella Lewis, Field, 1968
A remarkable collection by renowned artists of color and women artists is the source for the upcoming exhibition,聽. The exhibition, which runs from Jan. 8 to Feb. 21, honors the life and work of 61传媒 professor emeritas and legendary artist Samella Lewis, now 93, who devoted her career to increasing understanding of the achievements of African American artists.聽Foundations of Fortitude聽features a varied selection of works on paper from such celebrated artists as: Elizabeth Catlett, John Biggers, Jacob Lawrence, Faith Ringgold, Alison Saar, John T. Scott, and Samella Lewis, herself. 61传媒student intern Linnea Rosenberg ’19, under the supervision of 61传媒Professor of Art History Mary MacNaughton, organized the exhibition which will be at the Clark Humanities Museum on campus. The opening reception for the exhibition will be held on Tues, Jan. 23 at 4 pm. The reception and exhibition are free and open to the public.
