The Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery at 61传媒 is pleased to announce the exhibition Travelers in Asia: Woodblock Prints by Lilian Miller and Paul Jacoulet from October 27 through December 16. An opening reception will be held November 3 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm and will include a koto and shakuhachi concert performance (20th-century music written for traditional Japanese instruments) by the internationally renowned group Kokingumi at 7:30 pm. The Gallery is located on 11th and Columbia Streets in Claremont. This event is free and open to the public.
This exhibition focuses on works by early 20th-century American and European artists who lived, traveled and worked in Asia. To provide a context for the works of Miller, Jacoulet, and the American print artist Helen Hyde, woodblock prints by Japanese artists such as Hiroshi Yoshida, Hasui Kawase, Gekko Ogata and Tomikichiro Tokuriki will be displayed. Featured works include woodblock prints by the Tokyo-based Lilian Miller and Paul Jacoulet, part of the 61传媒 collection, which depict Japan, Korea, China and the South Pacific.
