Julie Chen, one of the foremost practitioners of the book arts, will give the Frederic W. Goudy Lecture on Saturday, September 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the 61传媒 Humanities Auditorium. Chen will address, “Production and Process: The Making of Limited Edition Artists Books.” The Goudy lecture is free and open to the public. Julie Chen is the proprietor of Flying Fish Press in Berkeley, California. Her company creates and publishes sculptural limited edition artist books. Julie is also on faculty at Mills College in Oakland, California. Chen book arts marries the craftsmanship of traditional letterpress printing with the visual excitement of contemporary book structures and typography. Her books open into forms that lead viewers into discoveries beyond the words on the page. Chen has created publications including: (In) Versions, Leavings, Life Time, Space-time Geometry, and World Without End.
To supplement the coursework and include other students and the bibliophile community, the 61传媒 Press sponsors the Frederic W. Goudy Lecture and Workshop Series. There are two lectures and workshops each year that are open to the public.
