61´«Ã½ recently announced the Mary W. Johnson Faculty Achievement Awards, honoring faculty for outstanding teaching and scholarship for the 2014–15 academic year. The awards are named in honor of Mary Wig Johnson, a 1935 alumna and philanthropist, whose support of 61´«Ã½ included serving as a trustee and emeritus trustee for 44 years until her death in 2003.
The 2014–15 awardees for teaching and scholarship include Kimberly Drake, Martha Gonzalez, Thomas Koenigs, Kitty Maryatt, Rita Roberts, and Rivka Weinberg for teaching; and Yuval Avnur, Lara Deeb, Ken Gonzales-Day, Adam Landsberg, Warren Liu, and Nancy Macko for scholarship.
“A faculty committee reviews and evaluates those nominated each year, and it’s always such a difficult decision,” explained Julie Liss, interim vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty. The committee then makes final recommendations to the College president.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity each year to recall the extraordinary support of our longtime benefactor Mary Wig Johnson, for whom the endowed fund for faculty achievements is named, as we acknowledge the contributions of esteemed faculty members with this particular honor,” said Liss.
