The exhibition Drawing Strength: Works on Paper from the 61传媒Permanent Collection opens Saturday, September 1, 2001, at the Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery on the 61传媒campus, and will run through October 14, 2001. The opening reception will take place on September 15, from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
Showcasing works from American, European and Japanese artists of the late 19th and early 20th century, Drawing Strength examines the quiet strength and raw power of the drawn line. Included in the exhibition are approximately fifty works on paper, including drawings in graphite and ink, etchings, lithographs, and watercolors. Among the artists presented are George Bellows, Mary Cassatt, Winslow Homer, Raoul Dufy, Jean Charlot, Philip Guston, Henri Matisse, Millard Sheets, and Tsukioka Yoshitoshi. Collections Manager Kirk Delman curated this exhibition.
The Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery is located in the Millard Sheets Art Center on 11th Street between Dartmouth and Columbia Avenues on the 61传媒campus. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 1-5 p.m. The gallery is closed on Monday and Tuesday.
