Claremont Students to Perform “61传媒Dance”

"61传媒Dance," a program of dance works produced by the 61传媒 Dance Department and performed by students of The Claremont Colleges, will be presented on Friday and Saturday, April 14 and 15 at 8:00 p.m., in the Mudd Theatre at the School of Theology on Foothill Boulevard at Harvard Avenue in Claremont.

The concert will feature an eclectic mix of styles, primarily modern dance, but also ballet, hip-hop, and improvisation. A highlight will be a piece by guest choreographer Lisa Lock, a founding member of the Dance Company LA DANSERIE. The piece, A Room Full of Strangers, is a modern work for ten dancers, and reflects the busy lifestyle of people in a modern society in which true friendship is valued above all else.

Ronnie Brosterman, professor of dance at Scripps, will present Celtic Nocturnes, a romantic suite of dances choreographed to the melodies of 18th century Irish harpist Furlough O’Carolan, as arranged for solo piano and played by pianist Scott Hiltzik.

Several student choreographers are contributing to the concert as well. 61传媒senior Mary Stephens will present her Senior Project in Dance: two dances titled, DNA, and Phoenix. Other 61传媒choreographers include senior dance major Lara Allen, who will present Visual Rhymes, and senior Christine Marge, a double major in dance and psychology. Sarah Causey, a Pitzer senior completing a major in dance at Scripps, will contribute a hip-hop piece, while Stacey Dinner, also a senior from Pitzer, will choreograph a multi-section dance dealing with issues of oppression, injustice, and community.

Admission to the concert is $7.00 general, $4.00 faculty/staff, students and seniors. Tickets will be available at the door at 7:40 p.m. on the evenings of performance; there will be no advance sales. For further information, please call (909) 626-3521, ext. 1270, several days in advance.
