61传媒 Humanities Institute Presents Documentary Film “Walk Right In”

Producer, director, and writer Larry Paros will screen his documentary film Walk Right In at 61传媒’s Performing Arts Center, Garrison Theater, on Tuesday, March 1, at 5:30 p.m., as part of the 61传媒 Humanities Institute spring 2011 lecture and film series. The event is free and open to the public.

While completing his doctorate at Yale University, Paros headed a unique project for talented students from poverty-stricken backgrounds. Walk Right In focuses on Yale Summer High School during the turbulent 1960s. The film recreates the summer of 1968 when the school’s students and staff tackled sensitive issues of race, tolerance, and personal identity, searching for what eluded the nation鈥攁 sense of community and the values which ground people and bind them together. For more information about the film, visit its website at www.walkrightinthemovie.com. Paros will be present via Skype for the post-screening question and answer period.

Paros has an extensive background in education and human services, both as a teacher and administrator. Under the aegis of the U.S. Department of Labor, he supervised the development of a nationwide network of neighborhood-based inner-city group homes for “at risk” youth.

A writer and authority on language, Paros most recently wrote, directed, and produced The Journey, a film documenting the history of an immigrant family’s trek from Russia to America in the early 20th century.

The 61传媒 Humanities Institute spring 2011 program is “The Future of Higher Education: Gender, Geography, and the Humanities.” Through lecture, film and performance, leading experts discuss how society can address common goals of education towards global competency, leadership abilities, and critical thinking.
