NY Times Best-Selling Author to Speak at Scripps

Author and journalist Jeannette Walls will present her New York Times best-selling memoir The Glass Castle on Monday, November 5, 2007, at 7:30 p.m. in Balch Auditorium at 61传媒 as part of the Alexa Fullerton Hampton Speaker Series. A book signing in the Hampton Living Room will follow her talk. The event is free and open to the public.

Since publishing The Glass Castle in 2005, Walls has garnered significant national and international attention. The memoir, which chronicles Walls’ childhood in a West Virginia mining town, as well as her decision to leave her home and move to New York City at 16, was a New York Times best-seller for 75 weeks and sold 1.5 million copies. It has been translated into 16 languages and has received the Christopher Award, the American Library Association’s Alex Award and the Books for Better Living Award. Paramount is currently making it into a motion picture.

Walls is a columnist for New York Magazine and MSNBC.com. She lives in the Virginia Piedmont with her husband, writer John Taylor. She has appeared on Prime Time Live, Good Morning America, Larry King Live, Oprah and the Diane Rheem Show.
