Essence magazine editor-in-chief emerita Susan L. Taylor speaks at 61传媒

61传媒 celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. by inviting Essence magazine editor-in-chief emerita Susan L. Taylor to campus to meet with students from The Claremont Colleges for an informal question-and-answer breakfast at 9:00 a.m. on January 27. The event is free and open to the public.

Taylor played several key roles at Essence, working her way up from freelance writer to editor-in-chief. While editor, she wrote a monthly inspirational column, “In the Spirit.” A collection of her columns was published in the best-selling book “In the Spirit: The Inspirational Writings of Susan L. Taylor.”

“Throughout her career, Taylor has used her status to bring visibility and attention to issues of poverty and education within the black community,” says Marla Love, 61传媒 assistant dean of students and director of SCORE, a group promoting campus diversity. “We are delighted to welcome Susan Taylor to 61传媒 and hear more about her journey as an agent of social change.”

Since leaving Essence, Taylor founded National CARES Mentoring Movement, which connects adult mentors with vulnerable children. Taylor’s visit is sponsored by The Claremont Colleges’ MLK Planning Committee.

The breakfast will be in 61传媒’s Malott Commons, Hampton Room, 345 E. 9th St. For more information, call Malott Commons at (909) 607-8508.
