Brad and Mary Anne Blaine Faculty Lecture: Gail Abrams

As part of the Brad and Mary Anne Blaine Faculty Lecture Series, 61传媒 is pleased to present Gail Abrams, professor of dance, who will speak on "The Dancer as Mother: Effects of Pregnancy, Childbirth and Motherhood on the Dancer’s Life" on Thursday, January 31, at noon in the Hampton Room of the Malott Commons.

An accomplished performer, choreographer, and scholar, Professor Abrams’s expertise lies in movement studies with an emphasis in Laban movement, a technique developed by Rudolf Laban, who was the founding figure of Central European modern dance. Abrams, who joined the 61传媒faculty in 1986, earned her bachelor’s and master’s from American University and has been awarded numerous research and performance grants. Her lecture will draw from a presentation previously given at the Dance Science and Medicine Symposium at University of California, Irvine, and at the Laban Institute of Movement Studies Conference in Minneapolis.

Former 61传媒professor of history and current trustee Brad Blaine, along with his wife, Mary Anne, are proud to sponsor this lecture. The Blaines have generously underwritten a lecture series featuring outstanding 61传媒faculty to commemorate the 75th anniversary of 61传媒. This lecture and all others in the series are free and open to the public.
