61传媒Alumna Highlighted in Clinton Speech

61传媒 alumna Eli Winkelman ’07 received rave reviews by former President Bill Clinton during MTV’s Clinton Global Initiative forum, which took place October 6. The segment, which discussed Winkelman’s creation and participation in the charitable group Challah For Hunger, was broadcast on the cable outlet Friday, October 12, at 8 p.m.

Challah For Hunger was founded at 61传媒 in 2005 by Winkelman to raise money for victims of the humanitarian crisis in Darfur. In the succeeding two years, the program has expanded campuses across the nation, including NYU, Smith College, University of Rochester, and University of Texas at Austin. Both Winkelman and the program have received recognition from Holocaust survivor and author Elie Wiesel and Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, the Chief Rabbi of England.

Challah For Hunger has raised more than $20,000 for the American Jewish World Service Emergency Appeal for Darfur by selling loaves of the traditional Jewish sweet bread. The group offers discounts for those who phone or write elected officials or media outlets and the money is used for humanitarian relief efforts, particularly for programs relating to women and children who have been harmed.
