As the prominence of social media influencers has risen, so has the number of get-rich-quick scams deployed through messages on social media platforms such as Instagram. Wood suggested that warnings on possibly fraudulent direct messages, such as “adding a flag, or indicator of risk鈥攍ike I get email banners warning me of suspicious emails,” might mitigate these scams’ success rates.
