In a two-part series for People’s Dispatch, Cindy Forster, professor of history and chair of Latin American studies, the impact that interim president Jeanine Áñez has had on Bolivia since taking power, arguing that Áñez is waging a war on women. “In her ideas about freedom of expression, Áñez’s presidency is reminiscent of the era of modern dictatorship in Bolivia that lasted from the 1960s into the early 1980s,” Forster says, adding that “Áñez nonetheless asserts that under her rule, Bolivia has passed from dictatorship to a thriving democracy.”
