61传媒 announced today its summer public events, which includes an outdoor concert on the campus and a partnership with the Los Angeles Public Library to host Indian novelist, activist and world citizen Arundhati Roy.聽 The summer 2017聽61传媒Presents聽season’s Levitt on the Lawn concert presents the unique Americana swing sound of nine-piece band, The Dustbowl Revival, in one of only two tour dates in the Los Angeles area. For its inaugural downtown Los Angeles program. 61传媒Presents will co-sponsor with the Library Foundation of Los Angeles an evening conversation with Arundhati Roy. Roy will introduce her new novel this year, only her second fictional work since her debut novel in 1997, The God of Small Things, which won the esteemed Booker prize for its exploration of identity, family and love.

Big, brassy, upbeat: The Dustbowl Revival’s vintage soul-meets-country blues has wooed critics and audiences alike. Named the best live band in LA by the LA Weekly, this octet,聽replete with tuba, washboard, accordion, fiddle, and mandolin, cruises eastward for summer fun on Scripps’ Bowling Green. Big Mike’s BBQ and聽Slammin’ Sliders will be on hand with their signature eats!

Twenty years after her novel, The God of Small Things, won the Booker Prize,聽Arundhati Roy returns to the world of聽fiction with The Ministry of Utmost Happiness. In a rare stateside appearance, Roy will read from the new book and discuss her career as a writer and聽political activist. She will be joined in conversation by New York Times bestselling author H脙漏ctor Tobar.
