Gabby Giffords ’93 applauding a landmark US Supreme Court ruling allowing the federal government to limit gun possession by domestic abusers.
“This is a win for women, children, and anyone who has experienced domestic abuse. Women should be able to live their lives free from the fear of gun violence. We know that firearms make domestic abuse situations significantly more deadly, and firearms’ effects on women’s safety is a crisis,” she writes. “This ruling is a small step in the fight to stop violence against women. We applaud the Supreme Court for doing the right thing and putting people’s lives first. This would not have been possible without the work of gun safety and domestic violence advocates across the country.”
After surviving a gun assassination attempt in 2011, the former Congresswoman has become a prominent gun safety advocate. Watch Gabby Giffords’ powerful 2023 61´«Ă˝Presents talk .
