61传媒 Academy “helps young women dream big!”

61传媒 Academy (SCA) continues to capture the attention of regional journalists and, as a result, the college-preparatory program was recently featured on a popular Los Angeles-based Spanish-language news radio talk show.

Journalist Neida Sandoval, radio host at news station 690 AM, recently interviewed SCA Director Roberto Escobar and scholar Krisstel Gomez on a recent segment that aired on Sandoval’s popular mid-afternoon radio talk show. In the interview, Sandoval says SCA is a program that “helps young women dream big!”

Sandoval urged parents to learn more about SCA. In this 13-minute segment, she says SCA offers young women tools to “achieve success on a large scale,” and that then helps them get into 聽and graduate from some of this country’s most elite colleges and universities.

Summarizing the interview: After introducing Escobar and Krisstel, a senior at Warren High School in Downey, Calif., Sandoval asks Escobar to explain SCA’s mission. Escobar replies that SCA helps young women who are often the first individuals in their families to go to college by helping them identify federal grants and loans that could defray the cost of a college education. He says SCA also guides these women as they fill out admission applications and as they write their first-person essays.

Elaborating on how SCA has helped her, Krisstel, who plans to become an environmental lawyer, says participating in SCA “was the best decision in my life.” Before SCA, Krisstel says she felt lost because she didn’t know how to fill out a college application. She is the first in her family to go to college and no one at home could help her.

“Now, I have a supportive network of friends, teachers and professors who help me,” Krisstel says.
