Medicinal Art

Beverly Shieh ’09 donated two original works of art to the American Medical Association Foundation. Her acrylic paintings, commissioned by Guam’s American Medical Association Delegation, were auctioned off at the foundation’s annual silent auction this past June. The mission of the foundation, the philanthropic arm of the American Medical Association, is to advance health care through support of programs in medical education, research, and service.

Beverly named her father as one of her biggest influences. “My dad is an OBGYN and very active with politics,” she said. One of Beverly’s paintings, 36 Weeks, portrays a mother late in her third trimester and addresses the concern that medical malpractice lawsuits may threaten women’s access to healthcare.
