The 5C Experience: The 5C Black Arts Festival

On February 17, Watu Weusi, a 61传媒club dedicated to empowering students of African descent, presented the art exhibition Hidden No More: Artist Showcase at the Motley Coffeehouse. The second of three Black Arts Festival events organized by Watu Weusi, Hidden No More featured works by four current student artists: Natalie Johnson ’18, Senqu脙漏 Little-Poole (PO ’19) and Sara Gonzalez-Bautista ’18, and Ellington Bramwell (PO ’19).

Event organizer and Watu Weusi leader Bemnet Gebrechirstos ’19 described the theme “hidden no more” as a response to the released movie Hidden Figures as well as the residual effects of colonization and the resurgence of white supremacist ideology in the political mainstream. In its fifth year, the Black Arts Festival, which coincides with Black History Month, is a celebration of art and culture that also encourages dialogue, critique, and action toward issues of race and privilege across the 5Cs.
