The Andrew M. Mellon Foundation recently awarded a $1.1 million grant to Pitzer College to develop an integrated Claremont Colleges–wide Critical Justice Education (CJE) program. In conjunction with the Claremont Colleges (5Cs), the California Rehabilitation Center, the California Institute for Women, and nearby prisons, juvenile detention facilities, and residential rehabilitation centers, the CJE will expand its Inside-Out classes, broaden opportunities for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals in California, and create an intercollegiate cohort of 5Cs students who have integrated traditional classroom learning with experiential education inside of penitential institutions over the course of the five-year grant period.
