Dining Updates

September 3, 2021

Dear Students,

I hope everyone is settling in well and is enjoying being on campus. I write today with updates about dining and Malott Commons. One of the best parts of 61´«Ã½is our delicious food at Malott Commons. The amazing team in dining has been hard at work balancing both providing delicious food and following safety protocols set by LACDPH. I am excited to share some updates to support students getting food faster and being able to get the food needed to support the important task of learning.

  • There are now two entrances to Malott Commons, the main entrance, and the east entrance in Seal Court.
  • Students are able to reenter Malott during mealtime to get more food. Students will be required to swipe but it will not count as a meal deduction during that meal period.  Mealtimes are:
    • Monday-Friday: Breakfast is served 7:30am – 9:30am, Lunch is served 11:00am – 1:30pm, and Dinner is served 5:00pm – 8:00pm
    • Saturday & Sunday: Brunch is served from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm and Dinner is served 5:00pm – 7:00pm
  • Students may reenter in between mealtimes. Students will be required to swipe but it will not count as a meal deduction during that meal period. Reentry during each meal period is unlimited. Meal periods are:
    • Monday – Friday: Breakfast is from 7:30 to 11:00 am, Lunch is from 11:00 am to 5:00pm, and Dinner is from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm
    • Saturday & Sunday: Brunch is from 10:00am – 5:00pm and Dinner is from 5:00pm – 7:00pm

During mealtimes, all stations are open. Once the mealtime has ended there are grab-n-go options, and the salad station, Oasis station, and grill are open. Students are able to dine indoors at Malott Commons at a reduced density level and outdoors. For the beginning of the semester, the tables and chairs on Elm Tree Lawn remain and excellent outdoor dining option as well as tables and chairs added throughout campus.  Masks are required at all times inside Malott Commons, unless you are seated and actively drinking and eating. For more information you can visit .

As a reminder, there is no cross-campus dining including cafes and eateries on other campuses; except for Starbucks at HMC. All 61´«Ã½students will be required to eat at Malott Commons.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to Garrick Hisamoto, General Manager of Malott Commons, or myself with questions.

Warmly,

Dean di Bartolo-Beckman
Interim Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students
