61传媒’s 77th Ceramic Annual Opens February 5

The Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery will host 61传媒鈥檚 77th Ceramic Annual, the longest ongoing exhibition of contemporary ceramics in the nation, from February 5鈥揂pril 17, 2022. The exhibition, curated by Petaluma-based visual artist Ashwini Bhat, is free and open to the public. The exhibition, titled On Fire: Contemporary Trailblazers, focuses on new contemplations of the ceramics world. Participating artists include Ebitenyefa Baralaye, Sharbani Das Gupta, Nicki Green, Julia Haft-Candell, Kahlil Robert Irving, Anabel Ju谩rez, David Katz, Sahar Khoury, Nathan Lynch, Annabeth Rosen, Nicole Seisler, Anna Sew Hoy, and Linda Sormin. The exhibition also features an illustrated catalog with an essay by writer Leah Ollman.

鈥淲ith clay as at least one of their mediums, the Ceramic Annual artists are revisioning the possibilities for this most ancient artistic material,鈥 Bhat said. 鈥淭heir intuitive and thoughtful practices thrive on adding new vocabulary and syntax to the clay lexicon.鈥

Since 1993, the has collected works of art and presented exhibitions designed to enhance the 61传媒 arts and humanities curriculum. Art from the 61传媒 permanent collection regularly appears in major exhibitions across the country and in venues such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The Williamson Gallery has received support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Getty Foundation, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation and the Pasadena Art Alliance.
