“Amina Wadud is currently visiting Scholar at the Starr King School of the Ministry, Berkeley, CA. In 2008 she retired as Professor of Islamic Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, Virginia after joining the Religious Studies Program there in 1992. She also taught at the International Islamic University in Malaysia.
Dr. Wadud, who specializes in Islam, gender and Qur’anic studies, is the author of “Inside the Gender Jihad: Reform in Islam”; “Introduction to Islam: A Reader”; and “Qur’an and Woman: Rereading the Sacred Text from a Woman’s Perspective.” She has been an invited speaker, teacher and consultant within the United States, including Hawaii, as well as in Jordan, South and Southern Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Pakistan, Indonesia, Canada, Norway, Netherlands, Sarajevo, and Malaysia.
Her current research focuses on gender as a category of thought in Islamic intellectual history and development, with a particular focus on Islamic ethics and gender.”
