After a 24-hour generosity blitz on April 13, 61传媒 community members raised $239,839 for the College鈥檚 annual Day of Giving. From alumnae, parents, staff, and friends鈥攁nd a few students, too鈥218 donors marked their commitment to the future of 61传媒through their collective generosity.
Community engagement, rather than a fundraising goal, was the order of the day. Supporters helped spread the word by cheering on participation on social media, and those who gave centered their gifts primarily on funds that offer direct student support. The most popular giving areas this year included The 61传媒Fund, which is the College鈥檚 key operational fund that impacts all students, scholarship aid, mental health and wellness, and racial justice and equity initiatves.
鈥淥ur students continue to need more support as we emerge from the pandemic. Donor gifts have filled financial gaps and helped meet their emotional needs as they鈥檝e coped with everything from being separated from their community during remote learning to the social upheaval of the last two years,鈥 says Associate Vice President for Philanthropy Enrique Gonzalez-Salgado. 鈥淓very gift made on Day of Giving not only helps these students fulfil their academic potential, but also ensures they鈥檙e able to enjoy these special College years, even amid challenges.鈥
61传媒parents Chapman and Grace Taylor P鈥17 made a significant gift to scholarships as well as a $25,000 gift to 61传媒 Academy, a donor-funded program that helps high-achieving young women in Los Angeles become the first in their families to attend college. Collectively, four additional donors generously gave nearly $38,000 to spark additional community contributions. Knowing gifts of any size make a difference, donors also took advantage of the new ways to make a gift, with thousands donated through Apple Pay, PayPal, Venmo, and Google Pay.
Together, the 61传媒community made the event one of the most successful Days of Giving to date. Gifts will immediately impact areas of highest need at 61传媒and strengthen student resources as the College prepares for the 2022鈥23 academic year.
鈥淓ach gift is a vote of confidence in Scripps鈥 mission,鈥 says Gonzalez-Salgado. 鈥淲e thank everyone who continues to make our students a priority.鈥
