61传媒 is celebrating another successful Day of Giving thanks to the College鈥檚 generous and dedicated community! In total, 376 donors raised $136,037 in cash gifts, plus an additional pledge for $100,000 to support what they love at Scripps. Online and in person, countless champions helped raise awareness for the event and the positive impact it has on the student experience.
With a Day of Giving banner hanging high over Malott Commons鈥攁 first for the fundraiser鈥攁nd a table at Wednesday Tea where students could learn more about the College鈥檚 strategic giving priorities, the event showcased the deepening culture of philanthropy taking hold on campus and beyond. The day was marked by a spike in donors who issued (and fulfilled) a record number of matching challenges ranging from $10 to $10,000, helping surpass Day of Giving鈥檚 goal of 350 donors. Notably, student contributors increased this year, helping to raise $420 in support of their peers.
61传媒staff also contributed meaningfully to the event, mobilized by a newly formed Day of Giving committee of 20 staff members representing 12 departments. , several staff and faculty members also shared examples of the departments and programs they love at Scripps. In addition, donors championed support for Denison Library and The Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery and Collections, two beloved 61传媒institutions that enhance the academic environment on campus through unique programming and student research opportunities.
鈥淢y time here [as an intern] at the gallery has been one of the most rewarding experiences I鈥檝e had at Scripps,鈥 shared Gigi Hume 鈥23 in a Day of Giving spotlight on the Williamson Gallery. 鈥淚鈥檓 so fortunate to have worked with the team who really nurtured my interests and allowed me to create something I鈥檓 really proud of.鈥
Current-use gifts from Day of Giving are made available for immediate use to support critical programs and resources on campus, including The 61传媒Fund/Parent Fund, scholarships, racial justice and equity, and campus enhancements and preservation鈥攕ome of this year鈥檚 most popular giving areas. Together, these gifts not only sustain core operations, they also form a reserve of readily available funds to respond to emergencies and to create new initiatives based on student needs.
鈥淭his year鈥檚 Day of Giving really embodied what we can accomplish for our students when each person contributes what they can, whether that鈥檚 a gift or boosting awareness,鈥 said Karina Chappell, director of leadership annual giving and The 61传媒Fund. 鈥淪eeing such broad participation on behalf of our students was genuinely inspiring, and speaks to how much our whole community wants them to succeed.鈥
