61传媒 Community Shows Up for 61传媒Access Initiative During Day of Giving 2024

Day of Giving 2024 Thank You

By Kendra Pintor

Every year, 61传媒 hosts the annual Day of Giving fundraiser, and every year, the generosity of the 61传媒community grows by leaps and bounds. On March 20, 2024, a total of 418 donors raised $216,826 in cash gifts to support what they love about Scripps. More than $55,000 was given to the 61传媒Access Initiative (SAI), which will fund new scholarships to enroll more Pell grant-eligible students and those with undocumented status at 61传媒. The day was marked by a turnout of donors who created and fulfilled generous matching challenges, with gifts ranging from $10 to $15,000, helping surpass this year鈥檚 goal of 400 donors. Notably, parents鈥 contributions increased this year, demonstrating support for their students and future 61传媒students.

This year, student and faculty partnerships helped increase impact. Students, faculty, and staff contributed meaningfully to the event, mobilized by a Day of Giving committee of 17 staff members representing 12 departments, faculty representative Associate Professor of Dance Kevin Williamson, and 61传媒Associated Students President Lily Dunkin 鈥24, representing students.

鈥淭hank you to everyone who supports 61传媒 and especially those who have continued to support the dance department,鈥 said Williamson. 鈥淕ifts are what sustain summer scholarships and internships as well as interdisciplinary arts programs.鈥

Additionally, Denison Library and the Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery announced matching challenges. A $2,000 matching challenge for the gallery was exceeded by more than $11,000 to the Mary Davis MacNaughton Endowment, and Denison Library鈥檚 donors more than tripled a match of $2,500.

Current-use gifts from Day of Giving are made available for immediate use to support critical programs and resources on campus, including scholarships, racial justice and equity, and campus enhancements and preservation鈥攚hich, alongside SAI, are some of the more popular giving areas. Together, these gifts not only sustain core operations, but they also form a reserve of readily available funds to respond to emergencies and to create new initiatives based on student needs.

鈥淲e are encouraged and humbled by the overwhelming generosity of our alums, parents, staff and faculty, students, and friends of 61传媒, who made Day of Giving 2024 one of our most successful campaigns to date,鈥 said Karina Chappell, director of leadership annual giving and The 61传媒Fund. 鈥淭hank you for your continued commitment to the things you love about 61传媒and supporting our students.鈥
