Imagine you’re a senior in high school, eagerly waiting to hear from 61´«Ã½ whether or not you’ve been admitted to next year’s class. You’ve worked hard for this: you’re at the top of your class, you lettered in a sport, and you spent hours volunteering in your community. The envelope—or more likely email—arrives, and you see the word you were hoping to see. “Congratulations…” And your dream school becomes a reality. But before you can pack your bags for move-in day, you and your family need to consider the cost of attending. You discover you will need to take out loans to cover what scholarships and grants don’t cover. You and your family cannot afford to take on these loans, and 61´«Ã½is out of the picture. But it doesn’t have to be.
Admitting all deserving students, regardless of financial circumstances, is still a dream for Scripps. The College meets the demonstrated financial need of every one of its students through a combination of grants, loans, and work study. More than half of our students receive financial aid. In today’s world, we must do more to further reduce the financial burden of student loans.
61´«Ã½ seeks to raise $10 million in scholarship endowment as part of a new scholarship initiative.
Many families are unable to afford a 61´«Ã½education. The new scholarship initiative will replace student loans with grants for any student with a household income under $100,000. The College will also cap the loans for every other student at $3,500 per year. If we can reach our goal, all students who deserve to be here can enjoy the aroma of fresh-brewed coffee at the Motley Coffeehouse. They can take classes in both the sciences and the humanities. They can meet their lifelong friends.
You can help us achieve our goal. To fully fund this transformative experience, 61´«Ã½must raise $10 million in new scholarship endowment by June 30, 2018. All gifts count toward the More Scripps Campaign and support deserving students and their families.
