Archibald Announces Departure from 61传媒Institutional Advancement

61传媒 President Lara Tiedens announced to the community on August 25, 2017, that Mike Archibald, who has served as vice president for Institutional Advancement at 61传媒for the past five years, announced his resignation effective in October. Archibald’s achievements at 61传媒and his future assignment at Bowdoin College in Maine follows:

Dear 61传媒 Community Members,

It is with mixed feelings that I announce the resignation of Vice President for Institutional Advancement Mike Archibald, effective in October. Many of us are saddened by Mike’s departure, but I know you will join me in congratulating him on his new role as associate vice president for development and alumni relations for Bowdoin College in Maine.

Mike came to 61传媒with more than 20 years of experience in the advancement of higher education, and his expertise in fundraising, alumni relations, and Board development has made a tremendous impact on the 61传媒community during his five-year tenure. As the chief architect behind the More 61传媒campaign, Mike led advancement efforts that have raised $144 million to date, exceeding the previous campaign by 40 percent. More 61传媒campaign milestones include:

  • A volunteer fundraising structure initiated through the Campaign Steering and National Major Gifts Committees
  • $56 million given by the Board of Trustees, including 18 $1-million-plus donors
  • Thirty new named scholarship endowments
  • Five new named endowed faculty chairs
  • A $5 million Laspa Center naming endowment
  • Increased donor funding to expand the number of annual internships from 10 to 70
  • More than $10 million for NEW Hall and the Katharine Miller ’55 Wing

Mike has led efforts to strengthen alumnae and parent engagement with the College and with one another through initiatives such as the annual 61传媒in Residence program, which brings alumnae and parents to campus to mentor students, and the robust Parent Leadership Volunteer organization. Mike also oversaw the integration of Career Planning & Resources into the Office of Institutional Advancement, enabling 61传媒to take full advantage of the network of alumnae and parents to expand internship and career opportunities for students.聽These programs have contributed to a 60 percent increase in annual giving and a 40 percent increase in the number of volunteers over the past five years.

As the staff support for Board committees on Institutional Advancement and Campaign Steering, Mike has served as a strong collaborator and respected advisor to our trustees. Mike’s contributions to 61传媒have been immensely valuable, and he will be greatly missed. Details about a farewell event to share our appreciation and good wishes will be forthcoming. Please join me in wishing Mike all the best in his new role!

Sincerely,

Lara Tiedens, President
