Suchi Branfman – Dance

Professor Branfman produced and directed two films which had virtual screenings:

·      “Freedom Time,” New York Art Book Fair, NYC, NY, February 2021;
·      “Undanced Dances Through Prison Walls During a Pandemic,” at Dancing Through Prison Walls and Critical Resistance, April 2021, and at the 18th Street Arts Complex, April 2021.

Her documentary dance film “Angee’s Journey,” (2020) was screened at the following:

·      61´«Ă˝ Dance Department, February 2021;
·      This is Not A Gun and Critical Resistance, March 2021;
·      Mama’s Day Bailout, Philadelphia, PA , March 2021;
·      Pasadena City College Dance Department, April 2021.

Professor Branfman published the following:

·      “Writing Dances, From Inside a Prison,” by Suchi Branfman Dance Magazine, April 2021;

·      “Suchi Branfman Gives Life to Undanced Dances Created Behind Prison Walls,” by Suchi Branfman, LA Dance Chronicle, April 2021;

·      “Undanced Dances Through Prison Walls During a Pandemic is a Virtual Embodied Liberation,” by Suchi Branfman, Autre, April 2021;

·      “Undanced Dances During a Pandemic, from Inside a California Prison Come Choreographies of the Mind,” by Suchi Branfman, Nation Magazine, April 2021;

·      “Undanced Dances Through Prison Walls During a Pandemic,” by Suchi Branfman, 2nd Edition, Sming Sming Books, due May 1, 2021.

Professor Branfman presented lectures at:

·      Heartbeat Opera, Broad Stage, Santa Monica, CA, February 2021;
·      Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, February 2021;
·      National Conference on Higher Education in Prison, Denver, CO, March 2021.

She completed an artist residency at Grace Mountain, Madison, VA, March – April 2021.

Professor Branfman received an Art of Recovery Project Award, Santa Monica Cultural Affairs Department, City of Santa Monica.
