Participant Information
Paper Guidelines
Final papers should be approximately 10-15 pages double-spaced (not including references). Papers should not exceed 25 pages including references and appendices. Papers should be submitted using APA format (including tables, charts, figures, references, footnotes, and section titles).
Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy
Papers must be the original work of the author(s) and may not include any AI-generated or AI-improved content. The use of generative AI tools such as chatGPT and other similar programs will be considered a form of plagiarism and is therefore disallowed. Please note that an AI detector program may be used to detect AI-driven work.
Presentation Guidelines
You will be presenting your papers to your fellow student colleagues and faculty discussants participating in the conference. Therefore, most of the audience will have at least some background in European Union or European studies. Your presentation should be 10-15 minutes long. PowerPoint slides are optional but welcome. We will provide a computer with Microsoft PowerPoint; please bring your materials on a USB drive, and email yourself a copy as backup. If additional audio & visual equipment is needed, please let us know in advance.

Panel Discussants
Faculty discussants will have read the papers before your conference presentation. The role of the discussant is to provide constructive criticism to each of the papers on the panel, by either addressing each paper in turn, identifying themes that run across the papers on the panel, or comparing and contrasting certain elements of the papers. The discussant also helps start Q & A with the audience. Finally, discussants evaluate the papers in terms of their appropriateness for inclusion in the annual publication of the conference. This publication includes a limited selection of best papers from the conference. Approximately 8-12 papers presented at the conference will be published. Discussants evaluate students’ written work, not their oral presentations.
Internet Access
Free WiFi will be available throughout Scripps’ campus and in all the panel session rooms. Guest login information will be provided at the conference. Free WiFi is also offered in the Doubletree Hotel rooms.
