Dear Members of the 61传媒Community, The 61传媒 Board of Trustees acknowledges the validity of the concerns expressed by students regarding institutional racism and bias.
The Board is grateful to students for their courage in speaking candidly about these issues. The Board affirms to the student body and the community as a whole our renewed determination to work with the 61传媒administration to actively address institutional racism and all forms of bias, discrimination, and oppressive actions.
The Board recognizes our institution’s obligation to address the acts and effects of discrimination and bigotry. Immediate actions for the Board in support of our commitment include:
- Evaluate the structure and expand the charge of the Ad Hoc Committee on Diversity and Inclusivity.
- Deepen the Board’s own understanding of institutional racism, bias, and oppression.
Through the Student Affairs Committee, the Ad Hoc Committee on Diversity and Inclusivity, as well as regular consultations with the President, the Board will carefully monitor steps being taken to address the issues being raised by students, faculty, staff, and administration to improve the climate and culture of Scripps.
