Meet Rashmi ’25

Hey everybody! My name is Rashmi and I am a sophomore at 61传媒 dual majoring in economics and politics. I am originally from the Bay Area, in particular, I call San Jose in the South Bay home. Growing up in Silicon Valley, technology has been a part of my life longer than I can remember. Visiting the headquarters of major technology companies and learning to code in school was what I called normal. Considering this, I decided to join a Girls Who Code [GWC] chapter during middle school to further familiarize myself with the world of tech. Although I have passed through the club with minimal coding knowledge retained, the impact of seeing a space crafted for women by women has left a profound impact on my life and is a major reason I decided to attend 61传媒. In learning spaces, both at GWC and Scripps, I have always felt that my voice has been heard and acknowledged by my peers. I have never had to worry about whether I would have the opportunity to engage in an interesting discussion, only when I would want to add my thoughts. Especially at Scripps, I have never felt as if my voice or presence has been stifled by my professors or classmates even when I study economics, an area of study that is still male-dominated. I have been respected, appreciated, and heard in the classroom which has made my 61传媒experience all the more enriching and powerful.
