Hi! My name Lizbeth and I am a rising senior at 61传媒. I have grown up all my life in Southern California! I am from the city of Pomona, which I truly love. The beautiful community and presence in Pomona is something that truly has kept me grounded and nurtured. I am a Psychology major and Chicanx/Latinx minor with a great passion for healing justice in community settings, Indigenous decolonial frameworks, and traditional healing practices such as herbal remedies.
Thankfully I have taken numerous classes that align with my passions, such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy, an Inside-Out Course (classes held at a local prison with a combination of 5C students and currently incarcerated students) which allowed inside and outside students to learn mindfulness skills that profoundly blossomed into a personal awakening for me. Another important course was Race, Plants, and Magic which focused on Indigenous ways of cultivating and caring for our sacred Mother Earth. Every class was discussion based and hands on! We were able to make fresh salsa with a molcajete (pestle) and handmade tortillas, from local corn harvested in Pomona鈥檚 community gardens. This class changed my relationship with plants and the way they have been commodified in Western societies, as well as being deemed 鈥渁lternative medicines鈥 after Rockefeller integrated petroleum based medicine.
