Sophie Perry, an environmental science major, and Sophie Navratil, a media studies major, are co-coordinators of the 61传媒Student Garden, a club that cultivates these crops at weekly meetings and hosts events aimed at growing students鈥 knowledge of sustainable environmental practices on and off campus.

On November 5, 61传媒hosted its traditional Olive Harvest, an event that furthers the College鈥檚 sustainability efforts by utilizing the campus鈥檚 edible plants as a food source. Scripps鈥 olive oil has won a bronze medal award at the 2020 Los Angeles International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition. The label, designed by 61传媒staff member Christine Olbrech, administrative assistant for the Office of Information Technology, also won a bronze medal for package design.

Last fall, 61传媒welcomed Lesley Swick as director of facilities operations and sustainability. Swick comes to 61传媒after serving for over 10 years as a sustainability, Green Building, and LEED consultant, having worked with clients such as the Los Angeles County Metro Transit Authority, UCSD, Toyota, and the City of Santa Monica.
