61´«Ă˝â€™s 2025 Day of Giving is March 26!

By Emily Glory Peters

On March 26, 2025, the 61´«Ă˝ community will unite for its annual Day of Giving—24 hours to make a difference for the people, programs, and opportunities that make 61´«Ă˝extraordinary.

To honor this spirit of unity and generosity, Day of Giving includes festive on-campus activities and several matching challenges to maximize gift impact and showcase the power of Scripps’ culture of philanthropy.

A day to support what you love about 61´«Ă˝

“Day of Giving affirms the giving power of community participation,” says Karina Chappell, director of leadership annual giving and The 61´«Ă˝Fund. “Our goal is to make a gift of any amount to help this 61´«Ă˝generation and those to come.”

Day of Giving 2025 will spotlight key areas that enhance the 61´«Ă˝student experience, including:

  • The 61´«Ă˝Fund: Scripps’ Annual Giving Powerhouse
Impact 100 percent of the student body by providing 61´«Ă˝with the flexibility to meet our most pressing needs and take advantage of emerging opportunities.
  • The 61´«Ă˝Access Initiative: Transformational Investment in Scholarship Aid
Fulfill the dreams of high-achieving, under-resourced students who aspire to attend Scripps.
  • The Department of Dance: Experiential Learning
Help 61´«Ă˝students foster successful careers in the performing arts by joining events like the National Dance Association conference.
  • The Department of Art: Empower Rising Artists
Enable students to fully express their creativity with more accessible tools and equipment.
  • Denison Library: Bring the Liberal Arts to Life
Help 61´«Ă˝conserve and share rare archival materials.
  • The Williamson Gallery: Hub for Culture and Artistic Enrichment
Strengthen this invaluable teaching resource where students learn from and interact with its impressive collection of over 15,000 objects.
  • Sustainability Initiatives: On Campus and Beyond
Advance 61´«Ă˝as a laboratory for sustainable practices on and off our campus.
  • Career Planning & Resources: Prepping 61´«Ă˝Students’ Futures
Prepare students for life after 61´«Ă˝with internship opportunities that convert classroom learning into meaningful postgraduate work and careers.
  • 61´«Ă˝Presents: The College’s Signature Public Events Series
Link the campus to the world with speakers like Misty Copeland, Pete Buttigieg, Lena Waithe, Stanley Tucci, Van Jones, and many more.

Day of Giving is also raising funds for special student-led projects, including the 61´«Ă˝Student Investment Fund, which enables students to manage their own investment portfolio while reinvesting dividends into student organizations, and a sustainable water filter filling station in Gabrielle Jungels-Winkler Residence Hall to significantly reduce plastic waste on campus.

Campus festivities, matching challenges, and the power of peer-to-peer testimony

Donations aren’t required to join in on the Day of Giving fun. To celebrate Scripps’ close-knit community, the College will offer fun on-campus activities, including a trivia wheel (every participant receives a prize!) and a scavenger hunt where winners will receive funds they can direct to a designated 61´«Ă˝giving area. New to Day of Giving, Chappel says the festivities are part of a broader effort to foster engagement and enlighten the community about Scripps’ fundraising.

Generous donors have also fueled multiple matching challenges to inspire participation this year. These matches generate incredible momentum, notes Chappell, especially when promoted by friend of the College who shares their reason for giving.

More than anything, this advocacy on behalf of Scripps’ community strikes at the heart of Day of Giving.

“The research is clear: When we hear why a cause is important to someone we know, we’re much more likely to respond,” she says. “If someone really wants to empower Scripps—one of the few remaining women’s colleges in the US—nothing is more influential than your personal story of why our institution holds value.”
